Deep eaves also ensure that window glass is shaded, again minimising heat buildup. This, in conjunction with good ventilation, further reduces the amount of mechanical cooling required. In addition, a palette of low-maintenance, locally sourced construction materials, including the “field stone” walls which are a feature of the property keep cost and energy usage low.
